This archive category will contain discussions focusing on the nature and extent of what has been called extreme poverty — that is, the world’s most desperately poor people. Extreme poverty is often defined as those who live on less than $1.00 per day. While poverty is present to some degree in every American town or city, most of us never witness the extreme poverty that one billion of earth’s inhabitants live in. Our discussions here will tell their story.
For all its progress, the modern world has dulled our recognition of the essential humanity of peoples of different circumstance than our own. We need to know the story of the desperately poor, lest we apathetically consign them to their world while continuing to live indifferently in our own.
Our mission at Givers by Design is to urge the Church to a deeper level of engagement with the problem of extreme poverty. To do this, we must know who these poor are, what their lives are like, the challenges they face. We hope you’ll join the discussion!
